No 7: Demag Cranes apprentices win the MIXED UP 2012 culture prize – the Tanz der Maschinen [Dance of the machines] was performed in 2011 by 18 apprentices and has already won second prize

In 2011, together with Demag Cranes and the Benrath Realschule secondary school, the Theater Kontra-Punkt created the project Tanz der Maschinen. Our trainees were able to demonstrate lots of creativity here: in three short performances, they transformed our work halls in Düsseldorf into stages and our cranes into the protagonists of a play. The audience was thrilled. And they were not the only ones.

In September 2012, the project received the MIXED UP prize 2012, awarded by the Federal Ministry for Youth. Here, six co-operation projects were honoured in all, winning through against a total of 372 competitors. The project had previously been awarded the North Rhine-Westphalia culture prize "Kultur prägt!"

One of our apprentices accepted the prize on 20 September and experienced an exciting day at the awards ceremony, which took place as part of the national specialist forum KulturLand – Netzwerke bilden im ländlichen Raum for creating cultural networks in rural areas.

We are pleased that our apprentices committed to this project and hope that chances such as these will occur often. The certificate is being displayed in our apprentice workshop at the Benrath location as a constant reminder of the exciting project.
